The Man Behind The Brush

Stef Koch was born in 1956 in Zurich, Switzerland where he lived until the age of 8. In 1964 he moved to Rome and in 1976 he finished his school years in the eternal city, which was the year when he moved back to Switzerland to study at the University of Zurich. A few years after graduating he moved to Noosa Heads Australia, where he still resides today with his family.

Stef has lived around creative people and colours all of his life. His cultural imprint in Rome, living in a bohemian household and being surrounded by a city full of art and antique history has helped mould his creative talent. His works are driven by humour and a message of happiness in this increasingly disconnected world. The inclusion of the spiral in his recent work is in representation of the free thinking mind.

Over the past twenty years he has been painting mainly with acrylics and pencils inspired by daily events in his life. Stef had his first solo-exhibition in Switzerland in September 2013 and it met with great success. More solo exhibition in Switzerland followed in 2014 and in 2015 with "Top Dogs" which was featured on Swiss national television. In 2016  he released his new work with an exhibition "Brains and Portraits" at "The J" in Noosa Heads, followed in 2017 by his solo exhibition with the title of "Flowers". In 2019 he was a finalist in the small scale art award in Brisbane.

He works in his studio in Noosaville - Queensland.
